We previously reported that the New York Post threatened Uwe Boll with legal action if he did not remove his “New York Postal” website. While Boll did not comply with the Post’s requests, his hosting provider was more than happy to oblige. So, what’s a rowdy-German filmmaker/shlockmeister to do?
We previously reported that the New York Post threatened Uwe Boll with legal action if he did not remove his “New York Postal” website. While Boll did not comply with the Post’s requests, his hosting provider was more than happy to oblige. So, what’s a rowdy-German filmmaker/shlockmeister to do? The only thing a man’s man can do, he re-hosted the website himself and challenged the New York Post to a boxing match.

The Post, clearly concerned about harming the devastatingly good looks of their editors, turned down Boll’s challenge and decided, instead, to take Dr. Boll to court. Read on for the details of the case.

The case, filed in US District Court in Manhattan, alleges that Boll’s New York Postal is a “brazen and unlawful infringement of the New York Post’s valuable intellectual property” and requests that Boll be enjoined from hosting the many iterations of the New York Postal website. Further, the Post requests that the domain names that currently direct users to the website be transferred to the Post’s ownership and that Boll be required to pay an unspecified amount of damages.

In addition to Boll, Freestyle Releasing, the independent movie studio responsible for releasing “Postal” in the United States, is named as a defendant in the lawsuit.

Uwe Boll, infamous video game movie director and German tax shelter, better get his boxing gloves back out because the New York Post has his number–which, according to Rotten Tomatoes, is around 4% or less.

Boll recently received a letter from the Post asking him to remove his website, www.ny-postal.com, because it reportedly infringes upon numerous intellectual property interests belonging to the Post. Boll has responded to the Post’s threats, saying that his site is simply a parody and that “[i]f they [The New York Post] sue me, I don’t think they’ll win.”

Boll says that the site was created in response to an April 15 Post article calling for a ban of his upcoming movie “Postal.” He claims the content of the article was based on sensationalist opinion that was elicited by showing scenes from his film’s trailer out of context, thereby ignoring the satirical nature of the film.

In true Boll fashion, the zany doctor1 goes on to call the New York Post “a rag corner newspaper” and offers to settle the dispute via a boxing match.

[Update] After being threatened by legal action, Boll’s hosting provider has pulled the site. The site is still viewable in its entirety here and here.

[Update] The second link, http://www.ny-postal.tk, is now offline too.
